Treatment media

Filtration Media

Mako Industries inventories a wide array of time-tested as well as state-of-the-art filtration media, including anthracite, Birm®, iron-removal media, reactivated carbon, virgin carbon, OrganoClay® filter-lite, specialized heavy-metal removal media, manganese greensand, polymer-enhanced carbon, MTBE-removal carbon, and filter sand. Our filtration specialists will gladly assist you in choosing the media that will meet your specifications.

Varieties Available

Crushed Anthracite

An excellent medium-density filtration media. It offers longer filter runs, less head loss, and better backwash rates than comparable sands. Its unique density makes it ideal for prefiltration.

Filter Lite Granules

Offer maximum removal of suspended matter and can be applied to gravity-flow and pressurized systems. Filter Lite offers economic savings on backwash rates and is ideal for smaller equipment.

Birm®

An economical way of removing iron and magnesium compounds from raw water. It offers a cost advantage because it is not consumed by the removal process and is easily cleaned by backwashing.

Manganese Greensand

Can remove iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide through oxidation and filtration. Once the oxidizing power is exhausted, potassium permanganate is used to restore its full oxidation capacity.

Reactivated Carbon

Quality-screened for activity, density, and fines. It is a lower-cost alternative where drinking-water use is not necessary and is sold in bulk or installed in our filtration units.

MTBE Removal Carbon

Designed for methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Its pore structure is ideal for trace and weakly absorbed organics, with capacity for MTBE that slightly exceeds standard carbon.

Virgin Carbon

Quality-screened for activity, density, and fines. Recommended where drinking-water quality is necessary; sold in bulk or installed in our filtration units.

Filter Sand

A naturally occurring, river-washed, glacial-deposit product. Its high silica and low calcium, magnesium, and iron content make it an ideal water-filtration product.

OrganoClay®

A granular modified-clay water-filtration medium. Its blend of bentonite and anthracite removes emulsified oil, grease, heavy metals, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

MetalSorb

An effective media for the removal of heavy metals, particularly lead, zinc, copper, chrome, and many others. It is easily backwashed, further enhancing its cost effectiveness.
